diary (april 2021)

Been reading Jamie's newest chapbook, "This Close" and there are a lot of really good poems! It is extremely exciting to see someone having fun with language, allowing meaning to follow. The MFA made me quite cynical of poetry but there are some poems/poets that just remind me why I love the genre, why it's worth continuing to write.

I found an artist I really like that does D&D character portraits and hired them to do one of my current character, Rexes Sola.

I'm on two pills of a mood stabilizer now. Not sure if it's doing much but I haven't had a big depression dip in a while.

Started working on my personal zine collection Excel sheet, working on adapting xZINECOREx.

S. bought a board game about the state parks yesterday. I played the first official session of my other dnd campaign, it went pretty well. I struggled with some rejection-sensitive dysphoria though.

The last book I finished was in February, "The Last True Poets of the Sea" by Julia Drake. I'm not annoyed I haven't read more, it's more that I wish I could re-read that book for the first time again.

I got my first dose of the covid vaccine today! I walked to campus to make sure I got there in time for my 9:20 a.m. appointment, got the vaccine, and walked home while listening to my Info Organization and Access class via Zoom. It feels incredibly liberating to have the vaccine even though I know that I won't be fully vaccinated for several weeks. S. and I talked about how it feels like tangible steps towards a new normal. It was the Pfeizer vaccine, which is the one I wanted.

I've spent most of my day working on a zine for my Community Engagement class about the Puerto Rican diaspora. It's honestly a lot of fun because I rarely write about being Puerto Rican in such a direct manner. Most of my poems about Puerto Rican identity are layered with family history, so I rarely think about it on such a large scale.

Today is the first day of National Poetry Month. Going to try to write a poem every day this month like I do most Aprils in the past couple of years. I also want to get back into the habit of reading more poetry.
